Very
frequently asked question:
What is the difference between a
DJ and a Disco?
Answer:
A DJ is the person who plays the music. Club DJs just bring their CDs
and vynil - their music -
and play on the in-house equipment. A Disco ('mobile Disco') is the equipment
on which
the DJ plays + whatever is needed to create a party or night club atmosphere
such as lighting
and special effects (see definitions and history below). 'Hiring a disco'
obvioulsuy means the DJ
+ the equipment (!). Some DJs do supply disco equipment, especially those
specialised at functions.

Disco:
1. Often refers to 'mobile discotheque' (From the
French 'Discotheque' = record Library).
A mobile discotheque is the portable (but often voluminous and expansive)
equipment that a DJ uses to
perform and that can replicate the ambiance of a night club. It can include
sound, lighting and DJ booth
(for a basic disco) or can be very sophisticated with star back drop &
ceilings, and visual effects using a plethora of specific electronic equipment.
2. Style of dance music that arose in the mid-1970s, characterized
by hypnotic rhythm, repetitive lyrics,
and electronically produced sounds(i.e.. Bee Gees, Saturday Night Fever).
